About the Project

Insecurity Project—Making A Difference Together
Year after year, Canyon Lake Republican Women choose Caring for America projects that make a real difference for our neighbors here in Comal County. This year is no exception! TFRW has chosen food insecurity as this year's focus, and our Executive Board is excited to announce that we'll be tackling this growing challenge right here in our community.

The Need is Real—and Growing
The numbers tell a sobering story: households in Comal County receiving SNAP benefits jumped from 3,112 in 2023 to 4,372 last year—a 28.8% increase in just two years. According to Feeding Texas, the food insecurity rate in Texas reached 17.6% last year, affecting 1 in 6 households.  Today, nearly 23% of Comal ISD students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Picture a kindergarten classroom of 25 little ones—5 or 6 of them are facing food insecurity (that we know of).

We share these numbers not to overwhelm you, but to remind us all that this crisis isn't improving—it's getting worse. And while there's no single solution, we can each play a part.  As retired US Navy Admiral William H. McRaven wisely said, "If you want to change the world, start in your own backyard."

This year, CLRW will support the CRRC Food Bank—our neighbor, helping our neighbors. Here's how it works
●    We'll collect food and monetary donations at every meeting
●    Donations will be delivered twice: in May (before summer) and early December (before Christmas break)—times when the need is greatest.

Donate Food: We'll share CRRC's needs list in each newsletter and online. All non-perishable, unexpired items are welcome!
Donate Money: Prefer to contribute financially? We gladly accept cash or checks.
Donate Prayer: If you're unable to give materially, please lift up this project in prayer.

A donation bin will be waiting at the Americanism table at each business meeting. Our co-chairs, Donna Lancon and Ingrid Hanna, will be there to answer questions and accept your generous contributions.

Together, we can make a meaningful impact in the lives of our neighbors.

"If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday."
– Isaiah 58:10
