Conventions
What are Precinct Conventions?
|
A Precinct Convention is a grassroots political gathering held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 7. These conventions play a crucial role in the political process and serve several key purposes.
Click Here for the Convention Notice. Purposes of the Convention 1. Delegate Selection - Precinct conventions are primarily held to select delegates who will represent the precinct at the Comal County Republican Convention and to apply to go as a delegate to the State Republican Convention. If you want to go to the State Convention as a delegate, it is essential that you do not miss your Precinct Convention. 2. Platform and Legislative Priorities Development - Participants at these conventions discuss and adopt resolutions that reflect the legislative priorities and suggest changes to the party platform. If adopted at the Precinct Convention, these resolutions will be sent to the Platform Committee, which will review and prepare them to be submitted for discussion and a vote at the Comal County Republican Convention. When preparing a resolution, you should first see if the resolution you would like to submit is already in the RPT Platform. If it is, you should explain why you would like to make sure this particular provision stays in the Party Platform. If it is not, explain how your resolution would add to or change the Party Platform. The Platform Committee will not have access to your discussion, so as much as you can document for the Platform Committee will help assure that your Resolution will have a greater chance of making it to the County Convention. Be prepared, however, with duplicates of your resolution to bring to the County Convention in the event that the resolution died in the Platform Committee.
3. Community Engagement - The conventions provide a venue for you to engage with other people in your precinct to discuss political issues, and mobilize support for candidates. It's an opportunity for grassroots activism and community building. Any registered voter who voted in the March 3 Republican Primary or who signs an oath of affiliation with the Republican Party is eligible to attend the Precinct Convention.
